About 1-Point Perspective

A printable scaffold of receding lines converging on a single vanishing point set on a horizon line. Use it when you need to sketch a corridor, a tunnelled façade, a long room or any subject that recedes head-on from the viewer. The light grid in the foreground gives you a measuring framework for furniture and door openings. Further reading: A practitioner reading list covers the standards lineage in more depth.

Standards lineage

Constructed using the perspective rules codified in BS 1192 and the classical text "Perspective for Architects" (Schaarwächter).

A short history

One-point perspective was systematised by Filippo Brunelleschi around 1415 - his lost demonstration panel of the Florence Baptistery is widely regarded as the first measurable perspective construction in Western art.

Where designers reach for it

  • Interior corridor and gallery studies
  • Streetscape sketches where the street recedes head-on
  • Stage design head-on views
  • Train-station concourse studies

Printing this grid

Every variant on this page is delivered as a vector SVG with physical millimetre dimensions baked into the file, so a compliant printer driver will reproduce it at exact 1:1 scale by default. Choose the sheet size that matches your printer tray, set scaling to 100 % (never "fit to page"), and verify with the calibration check on our how-to-print guide. Buyer's guide: Comparing the major architectural scale rulers can help you pick the right physical scale rule to use over the printed grid.
