Imperial 1/8" grid - North American whole-house and small-commercial scale.
A 1/8 inch (3.175 mm) cell grid where each square represents one foot at 1/8" = 1'-0". Half the size of the standard residential 1/4" plan - useful for fitting a whole house, small commercial fit-out, or duplex onto a single ANSI A or B sheet. Further reading: A practitioner reading list covers the standards lineage in more depth.
Recommended scale in ANSI Y14.1 for small-building plans; equivalent to the older "1 inch = 8 feet" engineering convention.
1/8" plans were standard in the U.S. Federal Housing Administration's mid-century residential pattern books, which set conventions for builders nationwide.
Every variant on this page is delivered as a vector SVG with physical millimetre dimensions baked into the file, so a compliant printer driver will reproduce it at exact 1:1 scale by default. Choose the sheet size that matches your printer tray, set scaling to 100 % (never "fit to page"), and verify with the calibration check on our how-to-print guide. Buyer's guide: Comparing the major architectural scale rulers can help you pick the right physical scale rule to use over the printed grid.
